By the 17th century, female slaves were made to take the place of “low -class” women paid to breastfeed white babies, a practice known as wet nursing. Enslaved nurses whose infants died soon after childbirth were extremely valuable. Becoming a wet nurse had detrimental emotional effects on black women, beyond those created by more traditional forms of slave labour. Such as the prolonged separation from their babies so they could focus on servicing white children.
This month of march has been dedicated to women all over the world as well as mothers. WAFFLESNCREAM has produced a tee shirt to celebrate the strength and bravery of these black women who were forced to participate in this selfish and inhumane act.
